Financing a car in Qatar without interest is straightforward: all four retail banks serving the market are fully Islamic, so every product on the shelf is Shariah-compliant by construction. Financing one intelligently is harder, because the four banks disclose wildly different things: one publishes exact rates with worked examples, two publish caps but no prices, and one publishes a pricing formula. This guide assembles the whole picture from QIB, QIIB, Dukhan Bank and AlRayan Bank, verified from their own pages on August 4, 2026.

How the structure works

Qatari auto finance runs on the Murabaha pattern: the bank acquires the vehicle and sells it to you at a fixed, agreed markup, repaid in equal monthly instalments. Your total obligation is set at contract and never floats. Dukhan's personal finance page names Murabaha explicitly for its cash product; the vehicle pages at all four banks describe the mechanics without always naming the contract, a disclosure gap worth noting rather than worrying over, since each bank's named Shariah board approves the products. Takaful replaces conventional credit insurance: QIB has you select Auto Takaful in its app flow, Dukhan includes free life Takaful on the financed amount, and AlRayan's tariff prices Takaful at up to 1.281% of the finance amount.

The market at a glance

QIIBNot published72 months Qatari / 48 expatNot stated (Qatari) / 40% mandatory (expat)5.60% to 5.85% fixed by segment; worked examples printed
DukhanQAR 2M Qatari / QAR 400k expat6 years Qatari / 4 years expatNot publishedNot published
AlRayanNot published (QCB caps apply)Not publishedNot publishedQMRO + 1.50% retail / + 1.25% Premier (5.85% / 5.60%)

The QAR 2 million and QAR 400,000 ceilings published identically at QIB and Dukhan are the market's effective regulatory envelope by nationality; AlRayan's materials note QCB caps apply where its pages omit figures. That single asymmetry, five times the ceiling for citizens, shapes everything else in this market, and we unpack it in the luxury car reality check.

The only published price list in Qatar

QIIB alone prints its rates: 5.60% for Wajaha customers (salary QAR 50,000+ or QAR 1 million in deposits), 5.70% for Deyafa (QAR 35,000+), 5.75% for World segment and 5.85% for everyone else, all fixed for the full term. Better, it publishes worked examples: every QAR 100,000 financed costs QAR 1,748 per month over 72 months for Qataris (QAR 125,856 total) or QAR 2,435 per month over 48 months for expatriates (QAR 116,880 total). You can reconstruct the whole deal from the public page, which no other Qatari bank permits. AlRayan gets close with its formula: QMRO + 1.50% retail or + 1.25% Premier computes to 5.85% or 5.60% at the December 2025 benchmark of 4.35%, for salary-transfer customers. QIB says only that rates vary by vehicle type and finance plan. Dukhan advertises attractive profit rates without numbers.

The expat squeeze, quantified

Resident terms tighten on every axis. Down payment: 20% at QIB, a mandatory 40% plus a vehicle mortgage at QIIB. Ceiling: QAR 400,000 including profit at QIB and Dukhan, roughly a fifth of the national tier. Term: 48 months at QIIB and Dukhan against 72 for Qataris. Grace: 3 months at QIIB versus 6 for nationals. Work QIIB's own numbers on a QAR 200,000 car for an expat: QAR 80,000 down, then the QAR 120,000 financed at the published example rate costs about QAR 2,922 per month for 48 months. The same car for a Qatari at QIB: potentially zero down and 72 months. Our expat car financing guide maps the full terrain.

The green exception: 4.6% APR

The lowest published Islamic auto rate in Qatar is QIIB's Green Car Financing: 4.6% APR on new electric and hybrid vehicles, roughly a point below its standard tiers, open to existing customers and to non-customers who transfer their salary. It inherits the regular product's terms including grace periods, and sits within QIIB's Sustainable Fitch-verified QAR 2.85 billion sustainable finance framework. If you were buying a new EV or hybrid anyway, this is the rate to beat before any negotiation elsewhere. Full detail in our Green Car review.

Used cars: the age rules that gate the market

Every published used-car rule is an age cap. QIIB finances used vehicles up to 5 years old. Dukhan allows vehicles up to 7 years old at finance maturity, meaning a 4-year-old car can carry at most a 3-year term. QIB accepts new and used vehicles with no published age limit. AlRayan's page lists new, used and green vehicles without published restrictions. The 2.4% comprehensive insurance QIIB quotes applies to new vehicles only, leaving used-car cover unspecified. Our new vs used guide works through the arithmetic of both.

Fees, exits and the fine print worth money

QIB charges no processing or administrative fees on vehicle finance and requires no guarantor, framing both as consequences of Shariah-compliant design. AlRayan's tariff is the market's most complete: a QAR 91.25 commodity fee per financing (evidence of the real commodity leg behind its Murabaha), free feasibility and documentation on salary-backed deals, Takaful up to 1.281%, QAR 100 cancellation after approval, and, notably, a 0% profit refund charge on early settlement through other banks: the bank does not monetise your exit. Late payments at AlRayan cost QAR 100 routed to charity. Grace periods: 6 months for Qataris and 3 for expats at QIIB, plus a postpone-3-instalments option at QIB. Our early settlement guide covers exits in depth.

How to buy well in this market

  • Start from QIIB's published rate card: it is the only guaranteed price and the natural anchor for every other quote.
  • Buying a new EV or hybrid? QIIB's 4.6% green rate first, then ask others to beat it.
  • Qatari buyers wanting zero down: QIB's published tier, weighed against whatever rate the branch quotes.
  • Salary near QAR 35,000 or 50,000? QIIB's segment thresholds and AlRayan's Premier band both reward crossing them; time the application after a raise.
  • Get every quote in writing with the total repayment figure, not just the monthly instalment.
  • Compare the Takaful line: free life Takaful at Dukhan versus up to 1.281% at AlRayan is real money on a large financing.

Frequently asked questions

Is Islamic car financing in Qatar really different from a car loan?

Structurally yes: the bank sells you the car at a fixed markup rather than lending money at interest, so your obligation never grows, late fees route to charity at properly run banks, and the deal is approved by a named Shariah board. Economically the instalments resemble a loan's, which is why the published-rate comparison matters: the structure being halal does not make any particular price fair.

What is the cheapest halal car financing in Qatar right now?

By published rates as of August 4, 2026: QIIB's Green Car at 4.6% APR for new EVs and hybrids, then AlRayan's Premier formula at 5.60% (salary QAR 35,000+) tied with QIIB's Wajaha tier at 5.60% (salary QAR 50,000+), then the 5.70-5.85% published range. QIB and Dukhan may beat any of these in-branch, but you will not know until you ask, in writing.

Can I finance a car with no down payment?

Qatari nationals can at QIB, up to QAR 2 million including profit, per its published matrix. No zero-down route is published for residents anywhere: QIB asks 20% and QIIB mandates 40% plus a vehicle mortgage. Our zero-down analysis covers whether taking the offer is wise.
